What Happens in a Past Life Regression Session?

Past Life Regression tends to sound more dramatic in movies than it actually feels in the room. If you're curious but a little unsure what to expect — will you lose control? Will you actually "see" anything? — here's a grounded, honest walkthrough.

What is Past Life Regression?

It's a guided, deeply relaxed state used to explore memories, patterns, or emotional themes some believe originate in past lives — often used to bring clarity to a present-day struggle that doesn't seem to have an obvious root in this lifetime.

Step by step: what a session looks like

  • The conversation first. Before anything else, you'll talk through what's bringing you in — a pattern, a fear, a relationship dynamic — so the session has a clear focus.
  • Guided relaxation. You're guided into a deeply relaxed state, similar to a guided meditation. Your eyes are usually closed, and your body is fully at rest.
  • The exploration. From this relaxed state, you're gently guided to notice images, feelings, or impressions that arise — there's no script, and what comes up varies enormously from person to person.
  • Coming back and integrating. You're brought back to full awareness gradually, then spend time talking through what surfaced and how it might connect to your original question.

Will I lose control or "black out"?

No. This is one of the most common misconceptions, likely from dramatized portrayals in film. You remain aware and in control throughout the entire process — this isn't hypnosis in the theatrical, "cluck like a chicken" sense. You can hear the practitioner's voice, respond, and open your eyes at any point if you want to.

What if I don't "see" anything?

Completely normal, and not a sign that anything went wrong. Some people experience vivid imagery; others feel emotions, sensations, or simply a strong sense of "knowing" without a visual picture. All of these are valid ways the process can unfold — there's no single "correct" experience.

How long does it take?

Sessions typically run 60–90 minutes, allowing enough time for the initial conversation, the regression itself, and unhurried time afterward to integrate what came up.

Who tends to seek this out?

People who feel stuck in a recurring pattern — in relationships, fear, or a specific emotional block — and are curious whether looking further back might offer insight that talk therapy alone hasn't reached. It's often approached with genuine curiosity rather than certainty, and that's completely fine.
